The Programme

Built around the dedicated player.

A residential football programme combining daily training, competitive fixtures, individual development planning, education support and pathway guidance inside the working environment of a professional English football club.

The Approach

A planned development model. The Truro City FC Residential Academy is built around structure — bringing together football training, competition, education, accommodation, nutrition and pathway planning in one coordinated residential experience.

At the centre of the programme is the Individual Residential Plan. This document defines the player's starting point, the goals they are working towards and the review process used to keep their development on track. The plan is practical rather than generic — it connects football targets, academic requirements and personal development priorities so that each player understands what is expected and how progress will be reviewed.

Duration

Options based on the player's situation.

Players do not all need the same timeline. Some benefit from a full academic year in residence, while others need a shorter, focused block aligned with a specific development or transition window.

Long-Term · Full Academic Year

Full Year Residency

The full-year residency runs alongside the academic and competitive calendar, from pre-season through post-season. It provides the most complete development experience, including sustained training, regular fixtures, academic integration, quarterly reviews and structured pathway planning at the end of the programme.

Short-Term · One to Three Months

Focused Residency

The focused residency is designed for players who need an intensive development period. It may suit a player between commitments, preparing for a new season, building match sharpness or using a defined window to strengthen their profile. Short-term residents follow the same training standards and programme expectations as full-year residents.

The Football

Daily training, regular fixtures and measurable development.

Football is the core of the residential experience. Players train throughout the week, compete regularly and receive feedback through both the coaching programme and their individual plan.

01 · Training

Five training days each week.

Players take part in daily on-field training and, when scheduled, strength, conditioning, flexibility and recovery training. Sessions are delivered by coaching staff holding UEFA C through UEFA A licences, supported by credentialed strength and conditioning coaches. Grass and artificial surfaces, gym access, recovery spaces and team meeting areas are located within walking distance of the pitch.

02 · Competition

A year-round fixture programme.

Players compete in weekend fixtures across the St Piran League and regular friendlies against youth teams and academies from across England. Mid-week fixtures may also be added where appropriate. The fixture programme is designed to provide meaningful match exposure at the right level of challenge.

03 · Pathway

First team visibility on site.

The first team operates from the same club environment. Players who consistently meet the required standard may earn opportunities to step closer to the Truro City FC first team, who compete in National League South, the sixth tier of English football.

Truro Sports Hub

A new home for the club.

Truro City Stadium, also known locally as the Truro Sports Hub, opened ahead of the 2024/25 season. It is the home of Truro City FC's first team and one of the primary venues for residential match days, alongside additional grounds across the region.

The stadium includes an FA-standard main pitch, floodlighting and a 3,000-capacity layout. An adjacent artificial training pitch for Truro City is currently under construction and expected to be ready for the 2027/28 season.

The Individual Plan

A development plan for each player.

The Individual Residential Plan is created at the beginning of each player's programme. It identifies the player's current level, the goals they are working towards and the specific work required to close the gap between the two.

The plan includes football targets, academic targets and personal development priorities. It gives the player a clear reference point from the first session and helps the coaching team provide feedback within an agreed framework.

Each quarter, the player and coach complete a formal one-to-one review. Progress is assessed against the plan, feedback is shared in both directions and the next set of targets is agreed.

The plan is not static. It is updated as the player develops, as evidence changes and as the next step becomes clearer.

Visibility & Profiles

Helping players be seen by the right people.

Development is most valuable when it can be demonstrated. The Academy includes a visibility structure designed to help players share their progress with parents, scouts, recruiters, agents and future programmes.

01

Live-streamed fixtures

Fixtures are streamed live so parents, scouts and a player's wider support network can follow games remotely.

02

Digital player profiles

Each player has a maintained profile containing key details, statistics, footage and development milestones.

03

Annual highlight reels

Edited highlight packages are produced each year for use in trials, college recruitment and agency conversations.

04

In-house content support

A dedicated social media and content operation captures the team and player journey throughout the programme.

Being around the first team and getting thrown into the pre-season game against Plymouth Argyle was unbelievable. But scoring in front of a packed crowd at the new stadium — that's something I'll remember for the rest of my life.

Facilities

Residential support, training access and daily logistics.

The Academy operates from a dedicated training facility in Newquay, supported by a single integrated team that handles the practical, logistical and on-site side of the programme — including pitches and performance space, in-house catering, accommodation links and player wellbeing routines.

01 · Training & Performance

The Academy gym and pitches.

Players have access to grass and artificial surfaces, strength and conditioning space, mobility and recovery areas, and team meeting facilities. The layout keeps the football, performance and recovery elements close together.

02 · Housing

Sea Space, Newquay.

Sea Space serves as the residential base on the Atlantic coast in Newquay. It is within walking distance of the Academy training facility, the town and the coast, giving players a practical and settled base for the duration of the programme.

03 · Fueling

Meals designed for training demands.

Players receive three meals a day, performance snacks and access to the club protein bar. Dietary requirements and religious food requirements are accommodated as part of the residential structure.

The FA Youth Cup

An established national youth competition.

As an FA-affiliated club, Truro City FC's youth team is eligible to compete in the FA Youth Cup each season. The competition brings together youth sides from across the English football pyramid, including Premier League and EFL academy teams.

For eligible players, the FA Youth Cup provides an opportunity to test themselves in a respected national competition and gain experience against the best youth players across the country.

Beyond the Pitch

Supporting the player and the person.

The programme is football-led, but the residential model also recognises the importance of education, character, responsibility and future employability. Players are encouraged to build useful credentials and habits alongside their football development.

Academics

Education built into the plan.

Academic pathways are matched to the player's age and level. Options include high school through The Truro School, sixth form and college through Truro and Penwith College, and university options where appropriate. Academic targets sit inside the Individual Residential Plan.

Certifications

Coaching and strength and conditioning credentials.

Longer-term players may be supported in pursuing UEFA coaching badges and recognised strength and conditioning qualifications. These credentials can strengthen the player's profile beyond their playing résumé.

Internships

Practical experience inside the club.

Players may access opportunities across areas such as communications, analysis, commercial activity, events and community work. These roles are intended to provide real responsibility and experience rather than passive observation.

First Team Game Days

Responsibility around the professional environment.

U17 – U19 Academy players are expected to support first team home games where required. Duties may include ball-boy or ball-girl roles, boot cleaning and other practical matchday responsibilities. The purpose is to connect players to the standards and routines of the senior environment.

Placement Network

Development and placement working together.

The Academy is designed to help players improve and then move forward with an informed plan. The placement network supports the two main routes out of the programme: professional opportunities in the UK and Europe, and college or professional opportunities in the United States.

Professional Representation · UK & Europe

Sport First

Sport First is a UK football agency owned and managed by Truro City FC Director of Football Alex Black. Academy players benefit from agency insight, pathway guidance and, where appropriate, representation support if a professional opportunity develops.
